Dear all this is always a fantastic event, please support the marvellous committee and organisers along with the community most of our members and their families attend each year, and especially this year as it marks 70 years of Victory in the Pacific. we all know the cost of war and conflict, the price for freedom and free of oppression weigh heavily on us all, we owe it to those members who did not return home and say “thanks for this sunburnt country we love so very much we remember you and thank you all”. lest we forget.

INVITATION TO THE 70 YEAR COMMEMORATIVE EVENT
VICTORY IN THE PACIFIC - ROCKY CREEK
The Tablelands Regional Council, together with the Rocky Creek War Memorial Park Committee, will be holding a VP Day “Military Muster” including a memorial service and unveiling and dedication of memorial wall plaques from 1.00pm on Sunday, 16 August 2015. This will be preceded at 12 noon by entertainment and meals will be available for purchase from community groups.
This service also commemorates the occupation of the Tablelands from May 1943 by units of the 6th, 7th and 9th Divisions and ancillary units and establishment of the Rocky Creek Army Hospital Complex. It will also commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Rocky Creek War Memorial Park and the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Located a few kilometres along the Kennedy Highway north of Tolga, the Rocky Creek Memorial Park is situated on the 2/2 Australian General Hospital laundry and medical stores site.
During World War II the Tableland area became the largest military base in Australia with camps at Tinaroo, Kairi, Atherton, Wongabel, Herberton, Wondecla, Ravenshoe and Mt.Garnet.
Rocky Creek was the site of the largest military hospital in the Southern Hemisphere – a 3,000 bed hospital which treated over 60,000 patients from 1943 to 1945. The first plaques dedicated in the park occurred on VP Day in 1995. A special wall of remembrance was erected in 2009.
The Tablelands Regional Council is custodian of the crown land and the park is developed and maintained in collaboration with the Rocky Creek War Memorial Park Committee.
For your information, an informal ‘Meet and Greet’ function will be held at the War Memorial Park from 2.00pm on Saturday, 15 August 2015. This will be followed by entertainment and food and drinks will be available for purchase. This event is primarily for the families who travel from throughout Australia to be present for the dedication of the memorial wall plaques. Limited camping is available at the adjoining camp area for those who wish to camp on Saturday night.
